Introduction to RPF SI Examination

What is RPF SI Exam?

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) Sub-Inspector (SI) Exam is a national-level competitive examination conducted by the Indian Railways to recruit candidates for the position of Sub-Inspector in the RPF and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF).

Purpose of the Exam

To maintain law and order, ensure passenger safety, and protect railway property.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

  • Candidates must be citizens of India.

Age Limit

  • Minimum: 20 years
  • Maximum: 25 years (Relaxation for SC/ST/OBC categories as per government norms).

Educational Qualifications

  • A graduate degree from a recognized university.

Physical Standards

  • Height, chest measurements, and weight criteria vary for male and female candidates and depend on category-specific norms.
  • Physical Fitness Test (PFT) includes running, high jump, and long jump.

Exam Pattern

The RPF SI exam consists of three stages:

Computer-Based Test (CBT)

Duration 90 minutes
Total Marks 120
Subjects 1. General Awareness (50 marks)
 Current affairs, history, geography, Indian Constitution, environmental issues, etc.
2. Arithmetic (35 marks)
 Basic arithmetic, algebra, time & distance, profit & loss, etc.
3. General Intelligence & Reasoning (35 marks)
 Logical reasoning, coding-decoding, analogies, syllogism, etc.
Negative Marking 1/3rd mark deduction for every incorrect answer.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Measurement Test (PMT):

PET Details: o Male: 1600 meters run in 6 minutes 30 seconds, high jump (3 feet 9 inches), long jump (12 feet).
o Female: 800 meters run in 4 minutes, high jump (3 feet), long jump (9 feet).
PMT Details: Height and chest measurements are specific to gender and category.

Document Verification

  • Verification of educational, caste, and identity documents for shortlisted candidates.

Syllabus Overview

General Awareness:

Topics Indian history, culture, and freedom struggle.
Current events (national and international).
Indian Constitution, polity, and governance.
Economic development and environmental issues.
Preparation Tips: Follow daily news, read newspapers, and refer to GK books.

Arithmetic

Topics Number systems, percentages, profit and loss, averages, ratio and proportion, time and work, etc.
Preparation Tips: Practice problem-solving regularly using mock tests and previous papers.

General Intelligence & Reasoning:

Topics Logical reasoning, puzzles, series, data interpretation, and coding-decoding.
Preparation Tips Solve reasoning puzzles and attempt reasoning-specific mock tests.
