Eligibility Criteria

  • A subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or

  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, intending to settle permanently.

Educational Qualifications


  • For Undergraduate Posts: Minimum qualification is 10+2 (Intermediate).

  • For Graduate Posts: A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

Age Limit


  • Undergraduate Posts: 18–30 years.

  • Graduate Posts: 18–33 years.

  • Relaxation in upper age limit for reserved categories as per government norms.

  • No active criminal record.

Selection Process

The Railway NTPC Exam follows a multi-stage selection process:

Stage 1: CBT-1 (Preliminary Examination):


  • Common for all posts.

  • Objective type questions.

  • Sections: General Awareness, Mathematics, General Intelligence, and Reasoning.

  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for PwD candidates with scribe).

  • Negative marking: 1/3 marks deducted for each wrong answer.

Stage 2: CBT-2 (Main Examination):


  • Post-specific exam.

  • Objective type questions.

  • Sections: Similar to CBT-1 but with a higher difficulty level.

  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for PwD candidates with scribe).

  • Negative marking: 1/3 marks deducted for each wrong answer.

Typing Skill Test/Computer-Based Aptitude Test (if applicable):


  • Typing Test: For posts like Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum

  • Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist.

  • Typing speed: 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi.

  • Aptitude Test: For posts like Traffic Assistant and Station Master.

Document Verification (DV):


  • Verification of educational certificates, caste certificates, and other necessary documents.

Medical Examination


  • Conducted to ensure the candidate meets the medical standards required for the post.

Final Merit List:


  • Based on performance in CBT-2 and other relevant tests (Typing/Aptitude Test), along with preferences given during application.
